Superbowl Hypocrites

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

CBS accepted an ad during the superbowl that is anti-abortion. While I will never argue right or wrong with vanyone except myself on that subject, I didn’t want to see that type of ad during the game.
But now I will call CBS out on this. They have rejected an ad for a gay dating service.

F**king hypocrites with an agenda…..
It is a very dangerous country we live in when the corporations that own the networks can decide what they want people to see or not see.

“Why you do this to me Dimii?”

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Remember that line from The Exorcist? A priest puts in a nursing home and she says that line to him. That home is where she wound up dying. As the priest (Father Demetrius “Dimmii”) tries to knock the devil out of Linda Blair, it turns into his dead mother and says again, “Why you do this to me Dimii?”

Whenever someone does something I find way out there, I think of that line. Jackie Chan’s career has been going south ever since he teamed up with Chris Tucker but this is not going to help.

Normally I would star going off about Hollywood redoing classics. Or at least making a joke about Ralph Machio rolling over in his grave. But he’s not dead-just his career. But LaLa land has made some damn good remakes. The Dark Knight and Superman with Branden Routh come to mind.
And this remake of Clash Of the Titans, due out at the end of March in 3-D. looks AWESOME.

The Weekend Outlook

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

If you missed our predictions of the Jets game on the air this morning, I predicted Colts 31 Jets 10. Dave predicted Colts 31 Jets 17.
I said I hope I am wrong with my prediction and Dave the Giants fan secretely hopes he is wrong too.
He wants the game tied at 31 and for Marc Sanchez to throw an interception returned for a touchdown with no time left on the clock……

The movie Legion that I talked so excitedly about on the air opens today with the “Kiss of Death.” It was not screened for critics so there are no reviews. Movie studios do this 99 out of 100 times because they KNOW a flick will be terrible! They want people to spend money on a ticket at the multiplex before the bad reviews keep people away. The only other way to tell a movie is bad without reading reviews is if it stars Nicholas Cage…..

I actually found a list of movies that opened the last 12 months that were not screened and the number of critics nationwide that gave the movie a thumbs up. Only one film got good reviews that was not previewed.

The Collector 32%
Obsessed 19%
Crank: High Voltage 62%
12 Rounds 29%
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li 4%
Madea Goes To Jail 28%
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans 32%
The Haunting of Molly Hartley 3%
SAW V 15%
An American Carol 13%
Fireproof 37%
My Best Friend’s Girl 15%
Tyler Perry’s The Family that Preys 51%
Disaster Movie 2%
Bangkok Dangerous 9%
Mirrors 15%

Speaking of bad movies ……this flick “Kick Ass” is coming out in the Spring has Nick Cage in it and looks kinda good…really good. Click here.

On Mondays morning show I will be flying solo. Dave has the day off. I’ll have a review of Legion Monday so save your money this weekend. Go see a great movie like “Up in the Air” and if you love a good end of the world flick I’ll let you know if Legion is any good.

Jets, Movies

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Sorry I have been away for a while, but I’m back. Just a couple of thoughts today.

If you missed my review of the George Clooney movie “Up in the Air” on Monday I gave it four stars and I highly recommend it. And if you didn’t catch it, Dave saw “Daybreakers” but he gave it a “rental” review. He said the first hour starts off with an amazing set up but the movie falls off a cliff in the 2nd act when Willem Defoe shows up. Tommorow on the show we will have Weekend Movie Preview featuring the horror-end of the world movie Legion.

When I was complaining about some obnoxious Jets fans I met at a bar last week, a friend of mine who is a Giants fan told me the other day, “Let the Jets fans have thier day!”…and he’s right.

I can’t believe how some people putting down the team even after they beat the Bengals and the Chargers. Before the playoffs started, I was one of the people saying “they backed in”, ect. But now you have to give them thier due respect.
I know it’s hard for a non Jets fan to give the team credit. And I know part of the reason is because the average Jet fans mood is either very high or very low with no in between. At Jets home games the concession stands should sell hot dogs and xanax.
But be fair! Just because the teams nickname is Gang Green dosen’t mean it’s right to piss all over them…..

Kudos and Previews

Monday, January 11th, 2010

You have got to hand it to the Jets. Even though I root for both New York teams, I was on thier case big time when they played the Colts and Bengals backups to make the playoffs.
But Saturday they showed everyone they belonged in the post season and Mark Sanchez was particularly impressive.
My favorite part of the game was when Dave and I were at Tommys Place in Rocky Point. The Jets were winning at the time 14-7 and a guy named Steve, wearing his Jets jersey, walked up to Dave and asked, “Why do you look so sad? The Jets look great!”
Dave replied, “I’m a Giants fan.”
Steve, part one of the most tortured fan bases in sports history, said to Dave, “Your a Giants fan? Oh dear God. I’m sooo sorry.”
It has come to that……

I meant to go see the movie “Daybreakers” this weekend but I never got a chance. Between all of the playoff football and our appearence at Tommys I just forgot. For those of you waiting for my review this morning I apologize…..

And speaking of movies let me leave you with this little treat. There is a first look at Toy Story 3 at IGN. Alot of great computer animated films have come out since Toy Story one and two, but Woody and the gang are still my favorites. Just click here.

Awards

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The Peoples Choice Awards are tonight. (YAWN!) It’s awards season again and you know what that means….

it’s where all the elites in Hollywood go around patting each other on the back and telling each other how great they are.

I used to be big into the Academy Awards but not anymore. I’m still a huge film buff, but ever since Samuel L Jackson admitted his maid filled out his vote card for the awards 2 years ago (because he could not be bothered) I found myself less and less interested. For the record, these feelings started when “Shakespeare In Love” beat “Saving Private Ryan” for best picture.

In a poll last year in Entertainment Weekly, 78% of people who voted for “Shakespeare” said if they had to do thier vote over again they would have voted “Ryan”. (kind of like a Bush-Kerry do over today)

Now this year when La-La land does thier annual “reach around” (is that one word or two?), ten movies will be nominated for Best picture.
Take it from a guy who watches WAY TOO MANY FILMS….there are never ten films a year worth best picture.

And this year when Hollywood announces the ten movies up for BP I know the best movie of 2009 won’t even be in that category…..because it’s a foreign film.

I saw everything that will be nominated this year and nothing compares to a little film called “Sin Nombre.”

It’s part scary immigration story and part frightening gangster story. Unless your name is Lou Dobbs you will love this movie.

Facebook

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010
A new study shows that 1 out of 5 divorces list Facebook as the reason the marraige is ending.

To all of those couples whose marraige ended because of that website all I can say is, “TOUGH SH#%!!!!”

The number one Facebook divorce reason is “dirty talk” with someone who is not your wife or husband. The number 2 reason is the Facebook relationship developed into an online affair.

Call me insensitive, that is my middle name, but it is your own damn fault if you are splitting up!

Why the hell would anyone put themselves into that “matrix” of social networking. Everyone I know that is on Facebook, including my wife, say it is a wonderful way to meet people you lost contact with. My better half has contacted and gone out to dinner and drinks with people she hasn’t seen since she was a child! And she loves it. BLECH!

Another friend I have known for 30 years is on Facebook and he told me about some people he has connected that with we hung out with 20 years ago .

And these are good things?! That sounds like a nightmare to me!

If I lost contact with you one of two things happened. I don’t like you or you don’t like me. If there was a real friendship, relationship or whatever would we have let 10, 20 or 30 years go by without trying to reconnect?

Facebook is like having a phone at home where you have to answer it every time the phone rings. There is no screening your calls and “Ohh, I don’t want to talk to him!”

It’s all out there on Facebook. Your history, what you do, where you work, pictures and blah, blah blah. A person trying to be your friend can even tell if you read thier message or ignored it, ect.

I prefer to blow off people the old fashioned way. Without them knowing.
