Sesame Street Turns 40

November 10th, 2009

Today marks the anniversary of everyone’s first favorite show! Sesame Street turns 40 today!

While today’s Gordon is different than my Gordon growing up, Mr. Hooper is in a store in the sky, and Snuffy, Elmo and a whole slew of characters didn’t exist when I was a wee babe, is there any doubt about how grateful we are to have had Sesame Street as an institution over all these years; from our black and white TV’s to our hi def flat screens?

The NY Daily News has a great salute to our friends on Sesame Street and from me, my 7 year old and my four year old, I say thanks! Thank you, Sesame Street for teaching my kids their A-B-C’s when they were two, and for allowing me to take a shower in the morning.

October 22nd, 2009

They really captured our attention…we are all talking about them….they’ve provided great material for radio peeps like me, but enough is enough! Richard Heene, mad scientist and reality show wannabe – meet the mad and in need of a good therapist, Brooke Hundley! Will the Looney Parade ever end?

Saying Goodbye to Old Friends and Hello To New Ones

October 2nd, 2009

It’s always hard to hear the news that your friends are leaving, especially when you see them everyday. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jim Douglas and Kim Berk for over eight years. As a team, we have been through a lot together but now it’s time to wish them the best as they move on to new opportunities. They’re so talented and I know we’ll be seeing them around. ♥

Change in this business is constant though and today we welcomed a new member to our KJOY family. Please help me, Bill Edwards and the entire staff welcome a Long Island legend to the KJOY Morning Show! This week, Steve Harper will be waking you up in the mornings on KJOY! Still the same great variety, accurate Long Island weather from Doppler Dave and the Weather Channel, up to the minute traffic from Berni Vider and the morning information that you’ve counted on KJOY to deliver for years… and now Steve Harper too…who in my humble opinion has the best hair in the business!

Steve’s co-host? Uh….we’re working on that and look forward to welcoming that person to our KJOY family very soon!

Thanks Jim, Kim, Steve and thank you for listening to KJOY 98.3!

MTV VMA Nonsense

September 14th, 2009

It’s been quite awhile since I have sat down to watch an entire VMA show on MTV;  a decade at least.

I was prepared to watch the first ten minute tribute to the King of Pop with Madonna and Janet Jackson, but who knew the highlights (or lowlights) would quickly follow.

While the world’s music community appropriately disses Kanye today, like Beyonce, Pink and Katy Perry, I’d like to actually thank him for introducing the whole world to the grace, talent and class act that is Taylor Swift.  We love playing her music for you on KJOY. Personally, I look forward to my young daughters growing up with her music and not some other forgettable teenage diva.  Role model is a strong suggestion that usually doesn’t live up to expectation, but I have no doubt Taylor Swift will succeed.

BTW, here’s Kanye’s “heartfelt” apology to Taylor and her fans…

Pre Labor Day Weekend

September 4th, 2009

It’s a Friday where practically no one is thinking about work - beach, parties, BB-Q’s are all on the agenda.

For me, Labor Day weekend is always full of last minute plans to enjoy the last days of summer.

Kind of sad; always busy.

This year is even more stressful though, as I include last minute back to school shopping into the holiday weekend calendar.

Backpacks, shoes/sneakers, pencils, folders…joy.  Last minute.  I’ll never do that again.

However, one item on the school’s supply list is creating extreme havoc. Perhaps you could help me?

What store carries those marble notebooks in ALL four required colors????

We need two black, one red, one blue, one green cover marble composition notebooks…hope you have a better weekend planned than me!

Enjoy!

Long Island Flood Zones

August 12th, 2009

Breathing a sigh of relief this morning…today’s Newsday listed the new Nassau and Suffolk County flood zones created by FEMA and the Department of Environmental Conservation.

According to Newsday, with the newly created flood zones, more than 25,000 Long Island homeowners may have to purchase flood insurance that can add an additional $2000 to their present policy.  At this time last summer, we were looking into buying a home near the water on the South Shore.  When we found out that the flood insurance for that particular area would cost an average of $3000 we bailed on that idea!  Our brand new home is about two miles north of the Great South Bay, but I just found out today that we are now four blocks north of our new Town flood zone map.  (Sigh of relief).

How do you find out if your house is located in the new flood zoning?

The Next Idol Judge

August 7th, 2009

So, the big TV news this week is that judge Paula Abdul is leaving American Idol…presumably over money, and the new rumor is that Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice will be replacing her this upcoming season.  Call me jaded, but I’m not entirely convinced that Paula’s Twitter resignation means that she is totally gone, but will we still watch the show without loopy Paula?  You bet!

As a matter of fact, I would suggest to TPTB at the Fox network to tell Posh that her husband needs to sit in the audience and in front of the cameras at all times.  (Go google “posh’s husband” if needed.)

Here’s our survey:  Who would you like to see as the new judge on American Idol?

Jodi’s Facebook Status

July 27th, 2009

Jodi Vale thinks, as much as I hate my nose, I hope it’s actually on my face when I leave this Earth…Anyone find Michael’s nose, yet?

Paul McCartney Preview

July 16th, 2009

With all the salacious details about Michael Jackson’s death over the past two weeks, it was really refreshing to hear from the biggest musical icon of all time, IMHO, Paul McCartney on the Late Show with David Letterman.  In case you missed it, here’s a preview of his upcoming shows at Citifield.  Enjoy!
