There’s a new book out that explores the science of love called “Why We Love: The Nature and Chemistry of Romantic Love”, written by anthropologist, Dr. Helen Fisher. She did brain-scan studies on people who had just fallen madly in love and discovered some little known facts about courtship.

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, there’s a 50% chance that grocery store chicken contains campylobacter, a germ that can literally kill people. 75% of broiler chickens also contain salmonella or arsenic, a poison used to fatten birds up and make their flesh pinker. Guess what?  Your little Diet Pepsi “pick-me-up” might be “dropping you down” more than you realize!  Did you know:  Experts found that sipping a can of soda daily can increase your risk of osteoporosis. Cola contains a compound that encourages the body to excrete calcium, so it weakens your bones. Studies show that drinking just one sugar-sweetened soda a day makes you 85% more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes during your lifetime. So drink water, instead.

Can you be injured from a sneeze?

Turns out, yes- it can happen! Ask Phil Hughes, a pitcher for the New York Yankees who suffered a stress fracture from a giant sneeze. He ended up on the disabled list, and it took him five months to get back on the mound. According to WebMD, a sneeze expels a jet of air at about 100 miles per hour and the quick, sudden motion can aggravate an underlying problem, like back or neck discomfort. You’re also more prone to a sneeze injury if you’ve got a bone-weakening disease, like osteoporosis or cancer. (more…)
